Properties of Protoctists

Protoctists

  • Protoctists tend to be microscopic unicellular organisms.
  • A pathogenic example is plasmodium which causes malaria.
  • Some are like animal cells, e.g. Amoeba which is a protozoa.
  • Others are more like plants and contain chloroplasts so can photosynthesise. These are called algae (some are multi cellular)
